Food Allergies Around the Web

A major story over the last couple weeks, of course, has been Meredith Broussard's Harper's article "Everyone's Gone Nuts" (which is now available online). You'll read several reactions to the article in the blog carnival; you can find more at Allergy Moms, Beyond Allergy, and [Mis]Adventures of an Ad Girl in New York. At this point, I'll just add that it seems like an awfully large leap of logic in the article to assume that science is tainted because its funding comes from a nonprofit organization, or that researchers with similar interests have ties with the few large nonprofits in the field. Major scientific journals require that researchers list potential conflicts of interest and sources of funding at the time of submission for a reason, and impugning peer-reviewed research because it's funded by these nonprofits evokes nothing so much as dubious conspiracy theories.
