Throw these pears into the oven at the same time you're roasting a chicken or some vegetables for dinner. They require little effort, and make either a healthful and low-fat side dish or a nice dessert with some ice cream or similar dairy-free frozen treat. I like Bosc or d'Anjou pears the best for this recipe, but any variety will work. Peel the pears or not based on your personal preference.

Ingredients:
- 6 to 8 pears, any variety, seeds removed and cut into large chunks
- 1 one-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and finely grated, or 1 Tbsp powdered ginger
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar (optional)
- 1/4 c water
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- In a casserole or baking dish, spread all pears in a single layer. Sprinkle evenly with ginger and (if using) sugar. Pour water in the bottom of the dish.
- Bake pears for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the edges are barely brown. Serve immediately, or refrigerate and serve chilled.
