If your baby has food allergies or is at risk for food allergies, you should introduce foods one at a time. Unfortunately, most commercial baby cereals have multiple ingredients. Making your own baby cereal is easy, and you can be sure that your baby is eating only one food at a time.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 1 baby serving

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Brown Rice
  • Filtered Water

Preparation:

Using a blender or food processor, grind the rice until it is a fine powder. The powder can be stored in a jar or well-sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator or freezer for future use.

When you are ready to make baby food, bring ½ cup water to a boil in a small pot on the stovetop. Add 2 tablespoons rice powder and stir well. (A small whisk, like an egg whisk, works well.)

Cook for 6-8 minutes, until mixture thickens. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.

Allow to cool to lukewarm. If your baby is just starting solids, thin with breastmilk or formula until runny.

Note: The same method may be used to make oatmeal, barley, millet, or buckwheat cereal for your baby. Store the ground grains in the fridge or freezer so they don’t spoil.
