Here are links to special meals of particular interest to people with food allergies and written allergy policies for major domestic airlines. Is there a carrier you would like to see on this list that isn't here? Please e-mail me and I'll add them.

AirTran Airways

  • AirTran has no written allergy policy online as of May 2007. They can be reached by telephone at (800) AIR-TRAN. They do not serve full meals on their flights.

American Airlines

  • Allergy Policy

  • Gluten-free meal information (also suitable for wheat allergies)

Note that the non-dairy vegan menus include margarine and thus may or may not be suitable for dairy allergies.

Continental Airlines

Continental has no written allergy policy online as of May 2007. They can be reached by telephone at (800) 932-2732.

  • Gluten-free meal information (also suitable for wheat allergies)

  • Vegan meal (also suitable for shellfish and dairy allergies)

Delta Air Lines

  • Peanut allergy policy: Delta will attempt to provide a "buffer zone" of three rows in front of and behind customers with severe peanut allergies. Delta's general sales and service telephone number is (800) 221-1212. SkyMiles members can call (800) 323-2323.

  • Delta recommends that those who require special meals reserve tickets by phone (you can use the numbers above in the United States or Canada) and mention the dietary requirements at that time.

  • Several fliers who have flown Delta on international flights in mid-2007 and noted severe peanut allergies to customer service at the time of booking have reported that bags of peanuts were served as the primary (or, in some cases, only) snack on board.

JetBlue Airways

Northwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines

  • Peanut Dust Allergies, which also indicates that "Southwest Airlines cannot guarantee that a flight will be free of other allergens." Fliers with specific concerns can call (800) I-FLY-SWA.

US Airways

United Airlines

  • United has no written allergy policy online as of May 2007. You can reach them by telephone at (800) UNITED-1.

  • Medical Diets (including wheat-free and gluten-free meals)
