My daughter was often taunted in preschool for being the kid who "can't eat anything." This used to really bother her until she met a little boy her age who literally can't eat any food. Despite surviving on a diet of hydrolyzed formula, this boy plays, takes classes, and enjoys life. Now when kids tease her about her limited diet my daughter explains to them that she eats lots of food, but there are some kids who can't eat any food at all, and that is OK too.
With bullying in the news and on everyone's mind this week, I invite you to share your personal stories. Have you or your child been bullied, teased, or harassed because of food allergies? Share your story with other readers. Let us know how you handled the bullying and what lessons you learned that might help other kids facing similar situations.
