CNN Hosts Celiac Week
Did you know that October is Celiac Awareness Month?
Well, CNN has been going all out this week to spread the word about celiac disease, with educational segments aimed at encouraging Americans with celiac symptoms to get tested, information about how to eat out with celiac disease, and tips on packing gluten-free school lunches. Segments will air every morning through Friday, but if you've missed anything, or if you don't have cable, you can watch at your convenience at the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness's Celiac Central website here.
Encouraging Americans with celiac disease to get tested is a major part of the NFCA's mission because an estimated 97% of Americans with celiac disease don't know they have the disease (that statistic is based on random samples of blood donors' antibodies). While "classic" celiac symptoms are gastrointestinal, many are not; symptoms can range from skin rashes to "brain fog" and fatigue.
