RAST Tests

When you hear the term "allergen-specific IgE levels," that usually refers to the results of a RAST test, or radioallergosorbent test. It's a blood test used to determine the levels of IgE to a particular allergen. Note that prick skin testing is a more accurate method for the diagnosis of food allergies than RAST. This is in part because fresh foods can be used, which give better results. Further, there are less false positive results and less false negative results with skin testing compared to RAST.
