Kids' Crafts and Food Allergies

Food allergens can appear in non-dietary sources. One non-intuitive one is kids' art supplies. Egg tempera paint is a fairly obvious one. Another less transparent source is play dough, which often contains wheat. Bird feeders can be another source of problems for kids with nut or sesame seed allergies. If your child has food allergies, be sure to inquire about planned arts and crafts projects at school or camp.
